Unprecedented Lawsuit in Egypt| A Husband Sues Wife for Giving Birth to a Daughter with Doen Syndrome
رفع زوج الطبيبة والكاتبة غادة العبسى دعوة قضائية على زوجته مطالبا بفسخ عقد الزواج ومطالبا بالتعويض المالي بسبب إنجابها ابنتهما سدرة من أصحاب متلازمة داون، والتى توفيت بعد ولادتها بثلاثة اسابيع. هذا بالاضافة الى رفع الزوج لدعوة اخرى يطالب بمنع الرواية الادبية “سدرة” والتى اصدرتها الكاتبة فى عام ٢٠١٢، والتى تتناول علاقة الام وابنتها من وجه نظر الطفلة سدرة.
وحسب ما جاء فى الدعوة، فان الزوج يتهم زوجته بالغش والتدليس لانها “اخفت عنه بانها تنحب اطفال مشوهين وغير اصحاء”. وارفق فى الدعوة فواتير المستشفى فى فترة علاج واقامة سدرة بالمستشفى فترة ٢٤ يوم بعد ولادتها وحتى وفاتها.
In an unprecedented lawsuit filed in Egypt, the husband of physician and writer Ghada Al-Abbysy, is demanding the annulment of their marriage and financial compensation for giving birth to their Down syndrome daughter Sidra, who died three weeks after her birth.
In addition, he is also demanding the ban of her fiction novel “Sidra”, published in 2021, about a the relationship between a mother and her daughter, Sidra, told from the point of view of the daughter.
In the lawsuit, the husband accuses the wife of hiding from him that she bears “deformed and unhealthy” children. The only documents he presented in the case were the hospital bills for Sidra 24 days she stayed in hospital after her birth and until her death.
غادة العبسي هي كاتبة ومطربة وطبيبة باثولوجيا إكلينيكية (طبيبة تحاليل) وحاصلة علي ماجستير المناعة من كلية الطب جامعة عين شمس. تمارس غادة الغناء منذ صغرها، قد عملت كمطربة (صوليست) في دار الأوبرا المصرية من عام ١٩٩٩ الي ٢٠٠٢. ويعد هذا الحفل الأول لها مع فرقتها.
Ghada is an author, singer and clinical pathologist. She has a master’s in Hematology and Immunology from the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University. She also worked as a soloist at the Egyptian Opera House from 1999 to 2002. This is her first concert with her band.
غادة نشرت لها رواية الإسكافي الأخضر ,ورواية الفيشاوي, وليلة يلدا, سدرة, وكوتسيكا,مجموعتين قصصيتين هما أولاد الحور وحشيشة ملاك. وقد حصلت مؤلفاتها علي العديد من الجوائز الأدبية المحلية و الدولية. ووصلت روايتها ليلة يلدا إلى القائمة القصيرة لجائزة الشيخ زايد وجائزة ساويرس الثقافية .
مثلت غادة مصر في برنامج الكتابة العالمي ٢٠١٧ في ولاية آيوا بالولايات المتحدة، الذي نظمه المكتب التعليمي والثقافي بالعاصمة واشنطن والتابع لوزارة الخارجية الأمريكية.
وشارك في هذا البرنامج ٣٥ كاتبا من جميع انحاء لعالم والذي استمر لمدة ١٢ أسبوعا – وكانت غادة هي الكاتبة الوحيدة التي شاركت من مصر.
Ghada has published, Al Eskafy El Akhdar (The Green Cobbler), Yelda’s Night, Sidrah, Kotsika, and El Fishawy. She also published two collections of short stories. Her works received local and international literary awards. Her novel “Yalda night” was short listed in Sheikh Zayed literature award and Sawiris cultural award.
Ghada represented Egypt in the 2017 World Writing Program in Iowa, USA, organized by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs – US Department of State, Washington, DC.
Thirty-five writers from around the world participated in 12 weeks’ program. Ghada was the only participant from Egypt.
كذلك تم دعوتها كطبيبة وكاتبة الي المؤتمر الذي عُقد بكلية كارفر للطب والذي تحدثتُ فيه على مدار ساعتين عن تجربتها في مجالات الطب والكتابة والغناء.
حصلتُ على شهادة الزمالة الفخرية في الكتابة من جامعة آيوا، تم اختيارها كعضوة برابطة خريجي التبادل الدولى التابع لوزارة الخارجية الأمريكية وعضواً بلجنة القصة بالمجلس الأعلى للثقافة
Ghada was invited as a doctor and writer to attend a conference at the Carver College of Medicine, where she spoke for two hours about her experience in medicine, writing and singing.
She received an Honorary Fellowship in Writing from the University of Iowa. She was also as a member of the International Exchange Alumni Association of the US Department of State, and a member of the Story Committee of the Supreme Council of Culture
