لم يزل العنف ضدا على المرأة والفتاة واحدا من أكثر انتهاكات حقوق الإنسان شيوع في العالم. وتشير التقديرات إلى أن 736 مليون امرأة على مستوى العالم —أي واحدة من كل ثلاث نساء تقريبا— وقعن ضحايا للعنف الجسدي أو الجنسي مرة واحدة على الأقل في حياتهن.
وهذه آفة تفاقمت في بيئات مختلفة، بما في ذلك أماكن العمل والمساحات عبر الإنترنت، وتفاقمت بسبب آثار ما بعد الجائحة والصراعات
على الرغم من اعتماد اتفاقية القضاء على جميع أشكال التمييز ضد المرأة من قبل الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة في عام 1979، فإن العنف ضد النساء والفتيات لا يزال مشكلة منتشرة في جميع أنحاء العالم.ولهذه الغاية، أصدرت الجمعية العامة قرارها 48/104 والذي يؤسس الطريق نحو عالم خالٍ من العنف الجنساني.
وقد اطلقت حملة اممية و هي 16 يومًا من النشاط لمناهضة العنف ضد المرأة والفتاة ابتداءا من 25/نوفمبر وانتهاء بيوم 10/ديسمبر، وهو اليوم الذي يُحتفى فيه باليوم العالمي لحقوق الانسان
وقد اكد الامين العام للامم المتحدة فى كلمة له ان العنف ضد المرأة انتهاك مُروِّع لحقوق الإنسان، وأزمة صحية عامة، وعقبة رئيسية أمام التنمية المستدامة.
و إنه مستمر وواسع الانتشار، ويزداد سوءا وما زلنا نعيش في ثقافة يهيمن عليها الذكور تترك المرأة ضعيفة من خلال حرمانها من المساواة في الكرامة والحقوق. وإننا جميعا ندفع الثمن: فمجتمعاتنا أقل سلاما، واقتصاداتنا أقل ازدهارا، وعالمنا أقل عدلا. Violence against women and girls is inexcusable

Violence against women and girls remains one of the most common human rights violations in the world. It is estimated that 736 million women globally – roughly one in three women – have been victims of physical violence. Or sexual intercourse at least once in their lives.
This is a scourge that has been exacerbated in various environments, including workplaces and online spaces, and has been exacerbated by post-pandemic effects and conflicts.
Although the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1979, violence against women and girls remains a widespread problem throughout the world. To this end, the General Assembly issued its resolution 48/104, which establishes the path towards… A world free of gender-based violence.
An international campaign was launched, which is 16 days of activity to combat violence against women and girls, starting on November 25 and ending on December 10, which is the day on which International Human Rights Day is celebrated.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations stressed in his speech that violence against women is a horrific violation of human rights, a public health crisis, and a major obstacle to sustainable development.
It is persistent, widespread, and getting worse We still live in a male-dominated culture that leaves women vulnerable by denying them equal dignity and rights. We are all paying a price: our societies are less peaceful, our economies are less prosperous, and our world is less just.
